History of the Smith Family 

Family owned and operated from the first day of business and now operating as Smith Automotive Group, the grandson of the original owner now heads Smith Chevrolet Cadillac.

From the beginning, Smith Chevrolet emphasized quality of product and quality of service, a business model that continues to flourish under third-generation owner/operator John Smith Jr.

As we have for seven decades, the Chevrolet dealership was created by Mose Smith Jr. The late Mose Smith Jr. was a well known businessman and civic leader, one of Mose Smith?s many accomplishments was serving as 1941-42 president of the Chamber of Commerce.

John M. Smith joined his father in business and also followed his father?s example by stepping up into Fort Smith leadership. John succeeded his father as head of the dealership and now his son, John Smith Jr., owns and operates the Smith Automotive Group.

From our start in downtown Fort Smith in April 1938 to our present location at 1215 Highway 71 South, the legacy of the Smith Family is one of affordable transportation and delivered with world class service.

The dealership moved from 105 N. Seventh St. to U.S. 71 South in December 1963. By the time we relocated ?on the curve? Smith Chevrolet had expanded to include Cadillac. For years we have been known by ?Chevyland on the Curve.?

The most recent addition to Smith is our Smith Nissan which was purchased in February of 2007. We are very excited about the growth of the Smith Automotive Group and can not wait to continue to grow into Bigger and Better company.
